In June 2015, NBC announced the unexpected cancellation of the exceptional TV show Hannibal, shattering the hearts of thousands of cannibal-loving fans.
NBC stated that the show “wasn’t getting enough audience feedback to maintain its funding” and broke the sad news that the ongoing season 3 of Hannibal would be the last to air under their sponsorship. The fans have considered this to be an extremely rude move.
The dedicated Fannibals have launched a campaign on social media networks to save the ceasing TV show. Their petition, kickstarted by Carlos Mazal, gained support from 70,900 current signers, and recognition from several websites such as movie pilot, the verge, NY post and business insider.
In addition to the Save Hannibal Facebook page, Twitter hashtags #LetHannibalLive and #SaveHannibal started trending all around, with Fannibals tweeting why they believe their beloved show should continue to air. Celebrities, such as Marilyn Manson, also took part in the campaign.
Protagonist lovebirds, Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen, have also shown their support of the scene on their personal Facebook and Twitter pages.
The Fannibals Unite non-profit campaign started selling low-priced Hannibal merchandise worldwide in order to raise funds for the show and the movement overall.
Unfortunately, Netflix picking up Hannibal isn’t an option due to the the show’s deal with Amazon. However, show runner, Bryan Fuller, explained the there’s a 50/50 chance the show will be saved.
Other TV shows which will be discontinued by the end of 2015 include: MTV’s Awkward, BBC’s mysterious fantasy Atlantis, CBS’ legendary CSI, NBC’s drama thriller Constantine, FOX’s classic Glee, ABC’s hit comedy Melissa And Joey, NBC’S Parenthood and PARKS AND REACREATION (we will never forgive you NBC), ABC’s Revenge, and many more.
The fans’ world is collectively mourning over the loss of those shows, but Fannibals are going the extra mile to fight back.
