The wait is finally over, Peaky Blinders returned with their sixth and final season. Cillian Murphy, Finn Cole, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle and The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy make a final return to give their Peaky Blinders fans one last goodbye before ending their series that gained a global audience.

While the fans were anticipating the Shelby brothers’ return to finish off their strategic plans this season, we were left heartbroken by Polly’s disappearance due to Helen McCroy’s death in real life. Even though she is no longer with us, her character was highly respected and her spirit was still lingering in the first episode.

We watched the show pay tribute and respect to our favorite gypsy aunt by throwing her character a funeral we all thought she deserves. As we watch her on-screen family grieve her character, the choice to not add background music to respect the actress’s passing heightened our emotions. We could truly tell how deeply distraught the actors were and how their emotions were so sincere Who can blame them, we were balling our eyes out at that sight.

BBC aired the first episode picking up from the last cliffhanger in season five that has left us in awe for two whole years. Due to the pandemic, production was held to a stop and we were all wondering what Tommy Shelby has for us next.

The first episode was fairly centered around the characters getting affected by Polly’s death. This gave the show a human aspect in how it didn’t disregard McCroy’s sudden death and how the characters and their fans shared a connection.

Peaky Blinders gave us their old dark and gloomy theme that was introduced in the first season, but what does this mean? Will the show leave us with a much bigger hole in our hearts or leave us feeling satisfied with closure? Alongside the cinematic masterpiece that was presented to us, the show also blessed us with an intense soundtrack.

The final season surely is exceeding our expectations and after a two-year wait, The Shelbys are wrapping up their story and we’re having mixed feelings about letting go. Hopefully, this season will end with a bang!

By the order of the Peaky Blinders… We salute Helen McCroy.
